Prayer points 1 - 08.03.2012

This weeks post has been written by Captain Sarah Butler, corps officer (minister) at Glasgow City Centre along with her husband Captain Matt Butler.  Please take some time out to pray for these situations.  If you have any specific prayer requests, you can either comment here, or email martyn.bellshaw@salvationarmy.org.uk and we will pray for these until you or God tells us to stop!!

Blessings, Martyn.

Sarah writes:

2 Chronicles 7:14
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  (NIV)

Families
It’s my daughter Elise’s 7th Birthday today.

And so we thank God for families. We thank God for the blessings of children, siblings, parents, our wider families and our friends that are as close as family.
We pray for those who are lonely or estranged from their family.

We pray for families in Glasgow.
We pray that the council and those who make decisions support healthy family values in their policies and provision.

We pray for schools as they support families.
We think of those in our communities who struggle in their family environment and particularly for those children who do not have a happy home.

God grant peace, comfort, wisdom, reconciliation and love in these situations.
Churches

Lord flood the churches of Glasgow with your Holy Spirit, and give them a renewed sense of Your vision for them.
Lord, may Your people come to You in prayer, united.

Elections
We thank God for people who are willing to make a difference in our communities through their role as Councillor.

We pray for honesty, transparency, and integrity during these elections.
We pray for rest and good health for those Councillors who are so busy doing their good work in their communities but also canvassing for support.

Lord, may Your sovereign will be done.
Trafficking, refugees and Asylum seekers

Please can you remember those who are working to enable/encourage
Glasgow to become a City of Sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers.

We pray for those working with the refugee community.
We pray for those in danger of being trafficked and sold as slaves.

We pray for those in Glasgow who may be in slavery to Traffickers.
We pray that Traffickers will be caught, and people released.

We pray for intelligence and wisdom for the police and those who work in these areas.
Lord God, may Glasgow be a welcoming place for all those who need help and asylum. May it be a city of freedom for those caught in slavery.

Other prayer requests from around the world.
Please pray for The Salvation Army in Congo Brazzaville following yesterday's explosion at an arms depot in the Mpila area of the capital.

Up to 200 people were killed in the blast and more than 1500 injured, some very seriously. A Salvation Army team has been despatched into the community to assess how best to help those affected by the catastrophe.

Salvation Army property in the city has been damaged by the explosion - the shock waves blew out the windows of our building at Potopoto Corps and an explosion destroyed the roof of Ouenze Corps hall and officers' quarters and the roof of Talangai Corps hall. There are currently no reports of any Salvationist casualties, though a soldier at Ouenze corps lost three grandsons and her daughter lost her leg.

Remember especially Major Urbain Theophile Loubaki at this difficult time, the officer who leads the Brazzaville 1 Division which includes the three worst-affected corps.

Lieut-Colonel Daniel Moukoko, Chief Secretary of The Salvation Army's Congo (Brazzaville) Territory, writes: 'We thank you for your assistance in prayers - we really appreciate them.'

Amen.
